Distracted by Jane

So how many marks do you think the person marking my chemistry exam would give me if instead of answering the questions asked, I wrote an essay titled "How much I love Henry Tilney" or "My favourite Jane Austen novel: Northanger Abbey"?

You see I have an exam coming up in the next week and today I tried to study...well that is to say, I usually don't mind studying at all but for some reason I found myself daydreaming about the world of Jane Austen and in particular that of Catherine Morland. And in the time it takes to pick up a book and say "Goodbye study, Hello Tilney" I had assumed the role of Catherine and was walking the halls of Northanger Abbey without any hope of returning to reality in the near future.

Surely I cannot be the only one who gets distracted by the world and characters of Jane Austen at the most inopportune times?

Love as always :)

No, you are not the only one. I'm always daydreaming about such things. *Props chin on hand and stares out the window.*

Sometimes I'm just somewhere besides the comforts of home and quotes from a J.A. story just pop into my head, and I start laughing...hahaha....

Although (don't yell at me!) I haven't read Northanger Abbey yet...But don't worry! I shall!

I know what you mean dear Mel! Right now it's the world of Mansfield Park that is filling my days! I'm finally reading the book and discovering I didn't know as much about it as I thought! And I think I've finally cracked the puzzle that is sweet Fanny Price.
And if it's not daydreaming or reading Austen than it's browsing through screencaps from the various adaptations and making lovely fan art!
Pray your studies go well though!

Melody, I am so glad I am not the only one! Austen's quotes are so great aren't they! I find myself answering people with quotes from the various novels and they have no idea what i am saying- they just make a face as if I am a total idiot *laughs* its so fun :)and I wouldn't yell at you haha but you really should read it hehe :) Its my favourite book ever! Thanks for following my blog!

Miss Laurie, Mansfield Park is beautiful to read isn't it! Its definitely my second favourite Austen novel, I just love the way it is written. I'm probably going to offend or make every Austen fan mad by saying this but P&P is 4th on my list of fav Austen novels (after Northanger, Mansfield & Persuasion) I love P&P to pieces but I don't understand all the hype. And Fanny, she is a so sweet such a great character although just like in the novel- so often overlooked.
Thanks for praying my studies will go well it is so kind of you :)

Mel,
It's an interesting study to find out how so many people have different Jane Austen favorites... Miss Laurie and yourself both hold Northanger Abbey as your favorite one, and I have a friend who didn't like it.
Usually, people who like NA also like Mansfield Park and Persuasion a lot. People who like P&P like S&S and Emma...not always, of course, but many times.
One of the many wonders of JA's novels is that there's a different one to suit different people's tastes...P&P is my favorite, and from what I know, Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey are further down on my list, even though I like them.

Miss Laurie,
I just finished Mansfield Park! I loved Fanny...she is so sweet & selfless. Hopefully you'll still be into MP when I post about it pretty soon. (Probably starting on the 19th)

Melody, I have never really thought on it much but now you mention it I do see quite a common pattern between the Austen titles an individual seems to prefer. Although all her novels are so lovely, it can sometimes be so hard to choose between them!
I look forward to reading your post on Mansfield Park, *mind wanders, dwelling on the book* I love Lady Betram- she makes me laugh ALL the time "I was not asleep" *laughs*

Oh, you're not! I have to force myself not to reread Pride and Prejudice right now because if I do that I won't think of anything else.

I had to come back and read this post again, because I just finished N.A. :)
I probably remembered it because it's one of the first posts I read on your blog.

Anyways, so then I saw in previous comments, that *you* were the one I was talking to about patterns in favorite books for Janeites... maybe you'd like to read this post I made today, and vote on the poll (for NA and MP, I presume!):
